The Northern Technical University is an engineering technical college located in Mosul, Iraq.
It was founded in 2014 with the aims to develop students’ scientific productive skills. Since 2014, the university has seen thousands of graduates progress through their programmes, which include agriculture, engineering and administration.
The university offers technical diplomas, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees, focusing on both theory and practice to ensure the highest standard of teaching.
There is a relatively high number of faculty at the university meaning that there is a high staff to student ratio.
The university has four colleges: administration, agriculture, Kirkuk College and technical engineering, as well as five technical institutes: Al-Dour, Al-Hawega, Kirkuk, Mosul and Nineveh. These colleges and institutes are located in three areas across northern and central Iraq: Kirkuk, Nineveh and Salahaddin.
The university has links with universities in the UK, and has a scientific agreement with the British International Institute for Training and Rehabilitation as of January 2020. Northern Technical University aims to develop widely-used research, and already has in place several agreements with both Arabic and international universities to develop knowledge and expertise.
Mosul has a wealth of architectural, religious and historical sites for students to visit, such as the Bash Tapia Castle. It is a 12th-century castle on the bank of the Tigris River, which actually forms part of Mosul’s city walls.
Archaeological offerings include the Nineveh Ruins, which have been home to Assyrian sculptures and artifacts, now excavated and recovered for museums to enjoy. Students have a variety of sites to explore in Mosul, making their university experience educational both inside and outside of the classroom.
