The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) is the second largest technology university in Slovakia and although it was established in 1952, its origins can be traced back to 1657, when it was the Universitas Cassoviensis.
Located in the large town of Košice (population: 239,000), this private Christian-Ecumenical university also has a campus a 35-minute drive away, in Prešov, which is home to the Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies.
The Faculty of Economics was introduced in 1992, meaning the university reached beyond its original agenda of purely technical disciplines. It then continued in this vein with the addition of the Faculty of Arts in 1998.
In 2005, the Faculty of Aeronautics of the Technical University of Košice replaced the Air Force Academy of Milan Rastislav Štefánik in Košice. Known throughout Europe, it has been providing university training for pilots and air operations personnel for over three decades.
TUKE has 9 faculties: Faculties of Heavy Engineering, Mining, Metallurgy, Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Manufacturing Technologies, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Aeronautics.
Catering not only to the educational needs of those in the East-Slovak region, TUKE attracts students from all over Slovakia and Central Europe, due to its varied specialised courses. It has established many networks throughout the region and the Slovak Republic. Through international projects like SOKRATES-ERASMUS and CEEPUS, students can study at many foreign universities such as Brunel University in England, Graz University of Technology in Austria and l’Université de Jean Monnet in France.
