Newman University was initially founded in 1968 as Newman College of Higher Education. In 2008 it was renamed Newman University College and in 2013 it was granted full university status.
There are two faculties at the university, the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies, and the Faculty of Education. Students can study a range of courses from accounting and finance to criminology, and mathematics to theology and philosophy.
Committed to creating a sustainable campus, the university uses the latest technology to control energy consumption and to reduce its carbon footprint. Newman University also strives to maintain a Fairtrade status to help tackle poverty in the developing world. It works with 400 partnership schools throughout the West Midlands in the UK to broaden the global perspectives of the communities it works with.
