Chung-Ang University (CAU) is a private institution based in Seoul in South Korea.
It began life in 1918, but gained comprehensive university status in 1953. Its two campuses (the other being in Anseong) house 10 undergraduate colleges and 16 graduate schools, serving more than 30,000 students and 900 faculty members.
The university’s mission is to achieve “Truth and Justice”, which doubles as the institution’s motto, providing students with general knowledge required for cultured leadership, specialised knowledge for developing the country, and the open-minded worldview to bring about harmony in the nation and the world.
CAU offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and is recognised as a national leader in the fields of pharmacy, culture and art education.
Its artistic prowess puts CAU at the forefront of the Korean culture wave, which is gaining more and more global prominence. It is therefore routinely the educator of South Korean culture icons, including members of K-pop bands Girls’ Generation and Big Bang.
The Blue Dragon Monument, a picturesque part of CAU’s Seoul campus, is a physical representation of the university’s ethos. The dragon, the university’s symbol, holds the earth in its arms, rising to heaven, receiving blessings from other small dragons below. Already acting as a symbol of sanctity, dignity, and prosperity, the dragon represents the sacredness, authority, freedom, and eternal prosperity of the University. Furthermore, each segment of the monument expresses the grand idea of pioneering the universe, the quest for truth, and the development and prosperity of the school.
A convivial spirit is cultivated at the university through the annual summer student festival ‘LUCAUS’ – an acronym of ‘Let's Unite CAUs’.
