The University of Lethbridge (also known as uLethbridge, uLeth and U of L) is a publicly funded comprehensive academic and research university.
Established in 1967, it was founded in the liberal education tradition, focusing on experiential learning, interdisciplinary research and co-op programmes.
There are 150 undergraduate degrees in the faculties of arts and science, management, education, health sciences and fine arts and just under 9,000 undergraduate students and 600 postgraduate students.
Located in Lethbridge, Alberta, it also has a second campus in Calgary offering degree programmes with evening and weekend courses in management and health sciences.
The main building, University Hall, was designed and completed by architect Arthur Erickson in 1971.
It is also home to a library, the centre for sport and wellness, a student’s union, the Alberta Water and Environmental Science Building and the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience, among others.
In 2017, the university established a School of Liberal Education. The University of Lethbridge Art Gallery boasts one of the largest collections of 19th and 20th Century Canadian, American and European art in Canada. There are 13,000 pieces including drawing, print-making, painting, photography, sculpture and installation.
The University of Lethbridge also runs the Niitsitapi Teacher Education Programme with Red Crow Community College to offer first-year bridging programmes for indigenous students.
The university is represented in U Sports (the national sport governing body of university sport in Canada) by the Lethbridge Pronghorns, formerly known as the Chinooks, with men’s and women’s teams in basketball, ice hockey, judo, rugby union, soccer, swimming and track and field.
